Actually, many of these start this week, so I'm just going to jump right in and start listing them!

Arts in Education Round Table News
Join us for two special 'focus on the artist' AIE Roundtable meetings!
THIS WEEK! - JULY 29, 4 PM - Hofstra University Museum...and AUGUST 5, 3 PM - East End Arts Council Carriage House. Be inspired! Join us as we explore essentials and aspirations of the teaching artist. Help us create next year's goals for the Long Island Arts in Education Roundtable. Learn about grant opportunities, technical assistance and other resources for the teaching artist.

WHDS Summer Group Art Show

All artwork is for sale - unframed original artwork & prints available for sale during reception. As Artists ourselves, we are pleased to support our local artists by curating & hosting periodic art shows at our location. Exhibiting artists are hand picked by the firm.

Long Island Museum News
Jeanne Rogers has been accepted into the open juried show at the Long Island Museum. An Awards Reception open to all will be held August 16 in the Gillespie Room of the museum from 2 to 4 PM. The show will run through Sept 7. Jeanne also recently sold one of her paintings at the Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation show.

Plein Air Paint-out
En plein air is a French expression which means "in the open air", and is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors. The Brookhaven Arts and Humanities Council will be sponsoring a traditional Plein air at the Longwood Estates to celebrate and capture the beautiful outdoors. You supply materials, we supply the inspiring landscape. Any medium encouraged.
Working Days:
8 am to 3 pm, Tue. & Thur., August 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20, 25, 27 (8 days scheduled work. Longwood Estates is open during the week and arrangements can be made for other days during the week). Exhibit Drop off: Thursday, September 3, 2009 12 noon to 3:00PM, exhibit at Longwood Estates: Saturday and Sunday, September 12th and 13th. Pick Up: Monday, October 5, 2009 R.S.V.P. by July 31, 2009. Fee: Free
Rules:
  • Exhibited artwork must have been created en Plein air, within the Longwood Estates
  • All mediums are acceptable
  • Artists are responsible for framing their artwork, bringing it to Drop off at the Longwood Estate for display.
  • All exhibited artwork must be for sale. Artists set their own prices.
  • A 30% commission on all sales is retained to benefit BAHC.
  • Unsold paintings are the responsibility of the artist.
Longwood Estate-Longwood Road and Smith Road, Ridge, New York 11961, 631-924-1820. Located on the North Side of Longwood Road, east side of Smith Road. Longwood Road is 2 lights south of Rt 25a off of William Floyd Parkway. Traveling south on William Floyd Parkway. Make a right onto Longwood Road, then the 1st right onto Smith Road. The entrance to Longwood Estate is 100 feet on the right. Please remember the estate is open to the public, from the hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Workshops and tours will be going on so please be mindful of the director her staff and the guests. Don't work in paths or docks so the tours can pass uninterrupted.

Kids' Club
By popular demand, "What to do when the Lights Go Out" is back on August 9th at the Mt. Sinai Heritage Center. Learn how to play classic board games such as chess, checkers, and more! $7 gets you in!

This is the show where photography rules. All photographers are invited to enter. There is no theme to this exhibit just some great camera work required. Have fun! The latest happenings!

First off...I hope your summer is going well! There's a few updates I need to tell you about:

This Thursday...did you buy your tickets to the BAHC fundraiser at the Clare Rose Playhouse? "Sylvia" is the play, $25 is the price, group rates are available...get them before they are gone!

July Events

There are some great events going on that we just have to let you in on! Tomorrow, July 12, the Mt. Sinai Heritage Center and BAHC present "What to do When the Lights Go Out", where kids of all ages learn how to play classic board games such as Chess, Checkers, and Clue. 10:30-12:30AM, $7 per person at the door, to be held at the Heritage Center.

The BAHC and Clare Rose Playhouse at St. Joseph's College will be hosting a fundraiser to raise funds for the BAHC and the many arts and humanities programs it supports. On July 23, a special performance of
Sylvia will be held with refreshments and raffles also available. Tickets are $25 each, group rates are available, seating is limited . Call 451-9070 to reserve your spot TODAY! Won't you do your part to support the BAHC?

Volunteers needed!!! Have you ever wanted to be part of the arts scene, but felt you lacked the talent? That's ok! You can still get involved by volunteering at our galleries! Both Gallery on the Hill and the Phoenix Gallery need volunteers to provide coverage. This is a great opporunity for retirees, those who have suffered a job loss and would like the chance to meet new people, and art students who want to get their first taste of how the art world works!

Calling all artists! Drop off for the Nautical Show at Gallery on the Hill is July 13, and the drop off for Local Long Island at Phoenix Gallery is July 19. Pick up for the Town Hall show has been rescheduled for July 22nd.
