NEWS from Fundraising Program Chairperson

Let's have a party! Let's have lots of parties!
The PAC Fundraising committee is now being formed for 2009! PAC has several exciting events planned for the coming months, and what better way to raise funds for them then throwing a party? We're looking for people with fun ideas and lots of energy to plan and organize our Plein Air Party, the Beaux Arts Ball and kick-off parties for our various events. Sound like you? Our first meeting will be Saturday, January 24 at 10 AM at:97 South Country Road, East Patchogue, NY 11772 Come for coffee and bagels and the opportunity to do good and have fun!

Lori Devlin, Co-President of the Patchogue Arts Council would like to share information about another project she is working on. She asks if you know of anyone who might be interested to please forward the information.Over the next year, The Patchogue Village of Parks and Recreation, in conjunction with the Patchogue Medford Library and the Patchogue Arts Council will be working on a community quilt project to demonstrate our desire for and to promote peace in our community and beyond. The work of creating the blocks and assembling this quilt will be done in small groups which will meet in the Patchogue Medford community under the guidance of award winning quilt designer and East Patchogue resident Diana Berthold who conceived the idea, designed, and completed a sample project to promote peace and harmony for all people in our community and our great United States of America. Our goal is to invite all interested individuals including students and members of religious or community organizations to participate in the quilt's creation. The themes of hands and hearts are the suggested motifs to represent healing the hearts in our wounded community as a result of the tragedy and death of Marcelo Lucero. Participants are encouraged to incorporate their own individual touch as they work with these motifs. Historically the "Quilting Bee" was a community venture and a social occasion whereby individuals spent time, sharing and bonding as they worked purposefully on the creation of a beautiful quilt. By working together, we can develop bonds between our community's diverse groups and acknowledge the contributions that immigrants have made both today and throughout the American story. The first meetings will be informational in nature and will take place at on March 5 - 2PM and March 19 - 7PM at the Patchogue Medford Library. We welcome all interested parties to attend one of the 2 meetings as we begin to organize the groups. Additionally, we are seeking experienced quilters who can assist or facilitating a group. The finished product will be unveiled to the community in Nov 2009 and will then travel throughout the Patchogue Medford community. Ultimately the finished work will be displayed at The Patchogue Medford Theater for the Performing Arts. Interested individuals and groups should contact: patmedquilt@gmail.com

Philip Jones Griffiths Exhibit

Will begin March 15, 2009 and run for three weeks Karen Ferb, karenferb@hotmail.com is chairing this event, she will need help setting-up, minding the exhibit during open hours and breaking it down. The ceramic platters of Bill Shillalies are exhibited in the Patchogue Theatre Lobby Art Gallery between January 23rd and March 15th.

The first meeting of the South Bay Art Association for 2009 will be held on Wednesday, January 28th at 7:15 pm at the Bellport Community Center, Bell Street, Bellport, and will be presided over by newly-elected president, Chris Taylor. This meeting will be a meet-and-greet for current and returning members, and an artist's roundtable. You may bring a sample of your artwork (optional). Guests are welcome to attend and new members are encouraged. Light refreshments will be available. All SBAA meetings are free and open to the public. For further information, please call 281-5592.

NEWS from Marketing Program Chairpeople

The Marketing Program's goal is to promote our COUNCIL; our MEMBERS and assist event programs in the promotion of their EVENTS. Currently we have a website, blogs, a monthly e-news, events calendar and wish to develop social media pages for the council and events and a member website where each member can control their own page. Kelleen Guyer kelleen@optonline.net marketing chair and calendars keeper Karen Ferb karenferb@hotmail.com are spending hours trying to keep up. We would like to expand our committee. Interested? We hope to meet at the Patchogue Medford Library one a month and work on a tight marketing plan - one that might benefit the council, and all members.

BAHC January/February 2009 events not to miss!

The Brookhaven Arts and Humanities Council has many great events coming up that are family friendly, date worthy, and perfect for those on a budget! Save the following dates, as these shows have something for everyone!

On January 9th, The Sea Monkeys will be rocking the house with the best of the 60's and 70's! Sing, dance, or just listen...you're sure to have a great time! Catch them at the North Shore Heritage Center as part of the Cafe Fridays Series!

The Kids Club has two great shows coming up! Tom Stock--puppeteer, teacher, artist and actor, will be hosting a workshop where children will enjoy an interactive show, learn how puppets are created, and create their own puppet to take home! January 11th at 10:30 AM.

Johnny Cuomo--musical storyteller--will be weaving tales from his travels and life experiences that will hold an audience spellbound. I've seen him at the Patchogue Theatre and had to buy the CD...this is a show suitable for all ages! Catch him February 8th at 10:30 AM!

Cafe Fridays presents a very special Valentine's show on February 13th with a performance of A. R. Gurney's Love Letters. This Pulitzer Prize nominated drama centers on two characters who sit side by side reading letters from their youth to old age throughout their separated lives.

At Gallery I, the Annual Membership Show will be running starting January 15 (dropoff is January 12). All media is invited. Loves of my Life will be the show running, appropriately enough, in February for Valentine's Day. Grab your sweetie and take a look!

Registration for this year's Choral Festival (our 15th anniversary!) has begun! From classical to pops, there's something for everyone. Call 451-9070 to register.

There's more happening around town! Jazz on the Vine is back again, thanks to the East End Arts Council. Make a point of checking it out! Music, wine...how could it possibly get better?

The Phoenix Gallery will be presenting Wild Kingdom starting January 14, with an artists' reception on January 18. Come celebrate the untamed power of nature with this show!

JOIN NYS ARTS in Albany on January 13!
We are off to Albany to persuade our legislators not to cut $7 million from the current arts budget. The Governor's proposed $7 million mid year cut will mean that almost 600 organizations from the October and December funding cycles will receive NO FUNDING! YOU need to join us in Albany on January 13 to advocate for the (current) 2008-09 arts budget. Click here for more information!
